Your pet will undergo a simple surgical procedure to obtain a fat tissue sample. The tissue sample will be processed to obtain highly viable & potent regenerative stem cells. The stem cells are then delivered back to your pet at the injury site. Because the injected cells are derived from the animal’s own tissue and are minimally manipulated there is almost no risk of rejection or reaction.
The main goal of stem cell therapy is to provide long-term anti-inflammatory effects, slow the progression of cartilage degeneration and initiate healing of the damaged tissue. This provides pain relief within a few days to a few weeks after the injection with further improvement as healing progresses.
We require a cancer screening blood test, x-rays and general blood work, before the pet can be accepted for the procedure.
Platelet-Rich Plasma
Platelet-rich plasma, or PRP, is derived from blood that is drawn from the patient and run through a special centrifuge, which separates the blood’s less dense components from its heavier ones. This process distills a portion of the blood to a platelet concentration level that is much richer than regular blood. At the same time, it helps to remove both red and white blood cells from the platelet rich part of the plasma. Plasma containing this concentrated level of platelets provides an abundance of growth factors, which are the proteins in the body that stimulate cells in the tendon, ligament, muscle, or joint to start the healing process and remove inflammation.
